Norris Lake was formed by the first dam built
by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in 1936. It is the top
recreational lake in East Tennessee offering fishing, swimming,
boating, skiing, picnicking. camping, hunting, or just sight-seeing
along its remote coves and shoreline. Norris Lake has over 800 miles
of shoreline with a maximum width of approximately 1.2 miles.
Norris
Lake has a surface area over 34,000 acres and extends over 70
miles up the Clinch River and over 50 miles up the Powell
River.
Norris Lake is the deepest and cleanest lake in Last Tennessee
with no significant industries or cities along its waterways
with visibility up to a depth of 25 feet. The wooded banks and
ridges along the secluded coves always offer areas to get away
from the crowd and swim and fish in quiet,
calm waters. Approximately 75% of Norris Lake's shoreline cannot
be
privately developed because of public lands. Some of Norris
Lakes' Public Lands include three state parks, two large wildlife
management
areas, three county parks and over 50 public access areas and
land owned by TVA and the State of Tennessee for future recreational
development. Norris Lake also has over 20 commercial docks
providing services such as gas and oil, boat rentals, launch ramps,
boat
repairs, restaurants and lodging. Norris Lake is considered
a very
good fishing lake with species such as smallmouth, spotted
and largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and walleye.
No
matter what your interests, Norris Lake has the recreational
opportunities in an outdoor paradise. |
